Three Newton leaders in green building innovation–Paul Eldrenkamp, Nick Falkoff, and Rachel White–spoke on the principles of sustainable building for the future on March 25, 2019.

Paul Eldrenkamp of Byggmeister, Inc., a design-build remodeling firm specializing in energy-efficient retrofits covered Green Newton’s Sustainable Building Principles. Paul is a Certified Passive House Consultant constructing low energy buildings.

Nick Falkoff, Principal of Auburndale Builders Inc, a residential and commercial construction firm with expertise in building net-zero homes, made a presentation on the Passive House baseline energy standard.

Rachel White, General Manager of Byggmeister, discussed the movement towards electrified buildings that are off the natural gas grid, with case studies of existing “all-electric” single-family homes and strategies for reducing the embodied carbon in construction.

Dan Ruben, Green Newton’s leader of its Building Standards Committee, discussed Green Newton’s stance on new construction projects in the city.
