The Climate Change Microgrant program supports Newton projects designed to address climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The Village Bank and the City of Newton are each contributing $2,500 to the program this year, as they have done in past years. Grants of $250 to $1,000 are available, and individuals or organizations are encourages to apply.

Here are just a few examples of the many projects the program has already funded:

  • Compost containers at the Underwood School
  • Climate awareness display at Newton South High School
  • Garden cart for the Newton Community Farm
  • A demonstration model of a “green” house
  • Sustainable building class for high school students
  • Community garden

The program also welcomes project proposals that address the following:

  • Reduced consumption of meat and food waste
  • Increased biking
