Class on ‘Addressing Climate Change: The Way Forward’

Is climate change on your mind? Not sure how to talk about it? Wondering how you can make a difference? In this three-session online class on Wednesdays, October 12-26 (6:30-7:30pm), educator and storyteller Peter Sakura will share with you the most current research, help you gain a deeper understanding of the ecological crisis, discuss proposed solutions, and offer suggestions for taking action. We’ll leave with new resources, skills to talk about the climate crisis, and a better understanding of how we can solve it. There is a minimum age requirement of 16. Use course code Z145-F22 at registration. There is a $29 course fee.

Instructor Peter Sakura holds a B.A. in history and social thought and political economy from UMass Amherst and an M.A. in teaching English to speakers of other languages from Teachers College Columbia University. Since 2013, Peter Sakura has been teaching about the climate crisis in schools and colleges using an interdisciplinary focus and an emphasis on solutions. He received training as a Climate Reality Leader in 2021. Drawing on oral histories and primary sources, Peter Sakura also teaches about the 1940s Japanese American internment to youth and adults using an approach that includes storytelling and making interdisciplinary connections to the present.
