The Green Newton Youth Group and Board Member Elizabeth Sockwell are installing a rain garden to educate the public about the benefits of climate adaptive landscaping and infrastructure in mitigating the effects of climate change. With help and guidance from the Newton Department of Parks and Recreation, the Boston Society of Landscape Architects, and Copley Wolff Design Group, our local youth will transform this unused space into a beautiful and useful garden.

The garden will be in the triangle where Langley Road, Beacon Street, and Union Street intersect in Newton Centre. Filled with low maintenance, native plants, the garden will help capture stormwater, prevent runoff into the streets and storm drains, and ultimately help recharge the water table. Students who are interested in getting involved should contact Elizabeth at esockwell11@gmail.com.
