National Pollinator Week (June 16-22) is an international celebration of our pollinators—the bees, butterflies, moths, hummingbirds, beetles, and more—that 85 percent of plants rely on to reproduce.
This year, the Newton Community Pollinator Project is sponsoring their annual native plant pop-up sale on June 17 and Newton pollinator garden tour on June 21, with pollinator gardens in peak bloom.
Native Plant Pop-Up Plant Sale
Grow Native Massachusetts will once again co-ordinate a group of at least five premier native plant growers/vendors in Massachusetts, bringing their pollinator-friendly native plants to Newton to help fill out your garden. These growers raise their plants without pesticides that can harm pollinators. They carry many straight-species—the original wild-type plants that best support wildlife—that can be hard to find at most garden centers.
Follow the Newton Community Pollinator Project Facebook page for plant lists and other updates.
Third Annual Newton Pollinator Garden Tour

The tour will be focused on pollinator gardens with mostly native plants in Newton Center, Newton Highlands, and West Newton this year, with a mix of both public and private gardens.
Gardens from City Hall to the south will be hosted from 12-2 pm, while gardens to the north will be hosted from 2-4 pm. Attendees will be provided with location of an additional get together with tour organizers and other gardeners and refreshments from 4-5:30 pm.
Maps of the gardens and plant lists will be supplied to registrants ahead of time by email. With the map, you can visit the gardens at your own pace. Most of the gardens on the tour will have gardeners to answer any questions you may have.
Gardens with native plants can be both beautiful and functional at sustaining our pollinators. Our environment is at risk because of precipitous declines in native plants and the insects, birds, and other animals that depend on those plants.
