Green Newton is excited to share great news that Newton City Council unanimously approved the Home Rule Petition for Electrification that was submitted to the state legislature after Mayor Fuller added her signature. State approval would give our city the authority to require that new construction or major renovations rely on electricity for heating and cooling rather than fossil fuels such as oil or “natural” [methane] gas. Newton joins six other municipalities in Massachusetts who have petitioned the State for such authority, showing that there is strong public interest in electrifying our future.
